College Park was originally founded in 1856 to bring Maryland farmers to The Maryland Agricultural College for scientific research and education. With hopes of growing, the institution began to expand in its departments of research, seminars, and fairs, later evolving into its current name, the University of Maryland College Park, in 1920.
